Turning Generosity into Action: 2025 at Besa

As the new year gets underway, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude for your support and share where, with your generosity, Besa is focused in the year ahead.

This is a pivotal moment for the nonprofit sector. Over the past few years, pandemic-era funding from federal and local governments allowed nonprofits to expand programs and better meet the essential needs of our communities. However, the funds that fueled that growth have now dissipated, while the needs remain. At the same time, federal support is becoming more constrained. Yet, at Besa, we remain steadfast in our commitment to delivering on our mission and showing up when it matters most.

Here’s how we plan to make an impact in 2025:

• Expanding Impact: We’re aiming to deliver over 1,700 volunteer experiences this year, activating and educating community members about critical causes. We’re also working to engage more populations, including underserved communities, while deepening relationships with over 185 nonprofits and forging new partnerships to meet the growing needs of our neighbors.
• Filling Workforce Gaps: Nonprofits are facing unprecedented funding challenges, and Besa’s volunteers are stepping in to help. With an average of five volunteer experiences every day, 365 days a year, we’re providing the equivalent of dozens of full-time employees, who never take a vacation day. This work enables nonprofits to focus on their missions, whether it’s supporting shelters, food pantries, diaper banks, or other critical services. Your support makes this possible by inspiring volunteers to show up where they’re needed most.
• Celebrating and Serving: Through impactful programs like our MLK Day of Service, Holiday WISH for seniors, and Valentine’s Day at Van Buren Shelter, we’ll both celebrate our community and address critical issues like food security, housing, and education. These programs make a real difference, and they happen because of you.

Here’s the most important part: By activating volunteers, we educate them in real time about our community’s challenges. We show them these challenges first-hand, equipping them to become advocates. To solve systemic issues, we need more advocates—people who will share these stories with their families, colleagues, and employers, and inspire others to take action.

At a time when our community faces significant headwinds, activating more people and turning them into champions for change is essential.
